While watching this juvenile Red Kite / Rotmilan (Milvus milvus) in late fall, the bird suddenly performed a swift, aerial maneuver. I appreciated the move for the bird showing it’s underside nicely, but I didn’t understand what the reason for the stoop was, right away. Only on the photos I took, I realized that the bird had caught a dragonfly (probably Sympetrum sp.) in mid-air and started to eat it immediately. A male Common Kestrel / Turmfalke (Falco tinnunculus) approached the kite right after the catch and tried to snatch the prey (I think), without success.
