A first-year European Robin / Rotkehlchen (Erithacus rubecula) caught during a standardized bird ringing operation at St. Martins Lodge, Frauenkirchen (Austria) gave strange, squeaking sounds while still in the net, while held in the cloth bag and during ringing. The sounds are not part of the regular repertoire of the species – listen to the recording above. An infestation (e. g. lung worms) was suggested…? The bird looked perfectly normal and didn’t appear sick or weak (see photo).
